The Madison 56ers Soccer Club announces the creation of a women's soccer team competing in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for the 2010 season starting in May 2010. The WPSL has been the highest level of amateur women's soccer in the United States since 1998. Its teams provide a role model for youth players, develop player's' skills and abilities for successful college competition, and offer stepping-stones to players who aspire to professional careers with Women's Professional Soccer (WPS). Many former and current women's professional players and U.S. Women's National Team selections have played on WPSL teams. In 2009, there were 48 active teams in the WPSL, playing throughout the nation, including five in the Midwest. The new WPSL team is an expansion of the Madison 56ers women's program that also includes teams in the Women's Premier League (WPL), the top state women's soccer league.

The Madison 56ers WPSL team will provide local players, including college and selected high school players, with the opportunity to compete against the best women players in the Midwest in national league competition. In addition to league games, the team will train twice a week during the season. Interested players will be expected to commit to making both the training and games. All players for the WPSL team will be required to pay a fee of $300, with a lesser fee for WPL team players.

John Reddan, currently the Madison 56ers Coaching Director, will be the Head Coach of the Madison 56ers WPSL team. Coach Reddan was previously the Assistant Coach for the University of Wisconsin - Madison Women's Soccer Team, and the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association (WYSA) Associate Director of Coaching. He has a USSF "A" Coaching License, and has been a lifelong player and coach for the Madison 56ers.

The team's General Manager will be Charles Billings, a longtime member of the Madison 56ers Board of Directors who has over thirty years of experience managing competitive adult programs at the state and national levels. He is currently also the General Manager of the very successful Madison 56ers NPSL program, which is the male counterpart to the WPSL.

A management group of interested individuals has been organized and is currently in the planning process to bring to the Madison area a competitively and financially successful WPSL program.

For more information, visit www.wpsl.info or contact Charles Billings at 608-271-4914, billict47@yahoo.ca, P.O. Box 2053, Madison, WI 53701-2073
